In the small tourist town of Capestang or in the nearby charming village of Poilhes, the Canal du Midi leaves its mark on landscapes, villages and people. By bike, on foot or by boat, you can browse the quays of these two small ports as well as the towpath that will lead you to discover numerous works of art. By boat, you can of course dock to discover them!
In Poilhes you will discover the stone bridge, the wash-house, the water-house… but also other heritage objects such as English cannons or a bottom of Roman dolium.
Carry on down the Grand Bief towards Capestang Harbour, and you'll see some other workswill (spillway, aqueduct, outflows, bridges, troughs…) and then you'll pass by theformer maison house, now used asthe Tourist Office and Harbor master's office for Poilhes and Capestang harbours.
La harbor master's office to inform you about the many port services available: water and electricity replenishment, internet point, sanitary facilities with showers, washing machine, tumble dryer ... You can also boat rental without license for an hour, a half day or a full day from Capestang harbour.
The charming little village of Hairy for its part, will offer you an atmosphere of rest and serenity. You can admire magnificent views of theCapestang lake and the Languedocienne plain, up to the Clape massif.
In Poilhes, just like in Capestang, the few restaurants and cafes alongside the Canal will welcome you for a peaceful break.
